Debut Novel is Published!

What if everyone was trying to kill the person you love most?

It’s a gaming competition with millions of dollars as prizes. The objective: Reach character level thirty. The hitch: The avatars have free will while the players sleep.

Mithabel enters the action as an Elf Tank avatar, joining party MAD. In the first two game days, the companions battle hundreds of relentless mooks, dozens of horrific mind-altering monsters, several respawning Bosses, and a couple crafty competing parties, for starters. Thank the Goddess for the Priestess Dylan and her healing spells. Mithabel can’t help but have a crush. Or is she in love?

Infrequent loot drops make upgrading equipment and spells nearly impossible. Skills only advance with class level. When the system places a huge target on Priestess Dylan, party MAD must expand their abilities in unconventional ways to protect Mithabel’s best friend against the horde.

It’s taken longer than I’d hoped, but I’ve published my debut novel, co-written with Emila H Thicke. The cover has changed from what we had back in July. Changes to works in progress are bound to happen right up until the day of publication.

The novel falls under the genre of GameLit, more specifically, LitRPG, which might have been better named as RPGLit, but whatever. I wasn’t the person who named the genre. The Kindle version of The Longest Survivor is available now. The print version will be available as soon as I’ve had a chance to review a proof copy and approve it. The print version will first be available on Amazon, but should be available on other bookseller platforms sometime later. Not sure when yet. This has been a learning experience for me and my partner in crime.

I created a promotional video for the novel. I’ve been dabbling in music, video, and animation, so I cobbled something together for a promo. Why not? Even if GameLit / LitRPG isn’t your cup of tea, you might enjoy the promo video or at least the music I created for it. I’m possibly more proud of this video than I should be, but it pleases me, and I want to share it.

I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about the book or the video, either their content or the process of their making, to an extent. No spoilers. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Robin. I hope you enjoy the read, because if you don’t, I’m not sure many people will. 🙂 I don’t know how much GameLit / LitRPG fiction you’ve read before, but you’d be great at writing it if you wanted. You almost write it anyway. It’s just a matter of making it evident within the story that the characters are (often knowingly) operating under a set of game-like rules, as opposed to straight fantasy or sci-fi, where the rules operated under are the laws of nature, physics, or magic, not with a game-like feel.
